WELCOME

Malahide Family Practice is a custom-built ground floor Surgery in the heart of Malahide Village that has wheelchair and buggy accessibility.

Our medical staff are Dr Claire Fitzsimmons, Dr Kathleen McClory, Dr Aimee Murphy, Dr Joanne Daly, Dr Harkamal Bawa & Dr Fiona McCudden. We have two Practice Nurses, Bernie Campbell & Reena Chaudhary.

Aoibhinn Dinnigan is the Practice Manager, and our Admin Team is Liz Soffe, Alva Meehan, Ciara Farrell, Selina Sweeney & Sharon McArdle.

We have taken the difficult decision to not accept new patients for the foreseeable future. It is important that we offer our current patients the best service we can. Once we decide to reopen again, you'll be the first to know. Any changes to this policy will be posted here, Instagram and Facebook.


Flu Vaccines

Our Winter Vaccine Clinics are now completed.

If you would like a flu vaccine and have had a text or email from the HSE inviting you to have a free Flu vaccine or believe you are eligible, please contact us via the Chatbot or Reception ( 01 8454265) to book an appointment.


See below for the eligibility criteria for the 2024/2025 vaccine programme.

For the 2024/25 ‘flu vaccination programme the ‘flu vaccine will be available free of charge for:

  • All persons aged 60 years and over.

  • Children aged 2 to 17.

  • Pregnant individuals.

  • Patients aged 6 to 23 months and 18 to 59 years at increased risk of ‘flu-related complications’.

  • Residents of Nursing Homes and other long-stay facilities.

  • Healthcare workers.

  • Household contacts of people with underlying conditions or Down Syndrome.

  • Out of Home Care Givers (carers for people who have an underlying chronic health condition or have Down syndrome).

For the 2024/25 Covid-19 vaccination programme the vaccine will be available free of charge for:

All persons aged 60 years and over.

  • Pregnant individuals, ideally between 20 - 34 weeks and only once per pregnancy and more than 6 months since a previous covid-19 vaccine or infection.

  • Not routinely recommended for healthy individuals between 18 to 59 years.

  • Those aged 6 months to 59 who are immunocompromised due to medication or disease - please contact us for guidelines if unsure

  • Residents of Nursing Homes and other long-stay facilities.

  • Health and Care workers.

If you are travelling to another country…

Babies age 6 to 11 months can get an MMR vaccine before travelling. You can get the vaccine for free from us here at the Surgery. Try to get the vaccine at least 2 weeks before you travel. Babies under the age of 6 months cannot get the MMR vaccine. But they still have any protection that was passed on during pregnancy. If your baby gets an MMR vaccine before the age of 12 months, this does not change the regular vaccination schedule. This means they still need to get the doses at age:

12 months

4 to 5 years (in junior infants)

Alternatively, If you wish to book a GP requested blood test at St Joseph’s Hospital in Raheny (with an up to date GP completed GP blood form) please use Swiftqueue to book your appointment or call 01-2910993. All bookings are appointment only, 1pm to 4pm, Mon - Fri and there is no charge for this service.

Clock face - arrive on time and not too early please

We love…

when you arrive on time for your appointment. However, please don't arrive too early so we can keep the numbers in the Waiting Room down and in turn help avoid the spread of infection during this flu season.

Free Contraception Scheme

We are delighted to be participants in the HSE scheme to provide free contraception consultations to our female patients aged 17 & 35 years. All that is needed from you is your PPS number to prove eligibility and a signature on the required form. Please call Reception 01 8454265 to book.

HPV vaccine catch-up programme

The Laura Brennan HPV vaccine catch-up programme is for some people aged 16 or older who did not get the vaccine yet.

You can book an HPV vaccine catch-up appointment with the HSE Clinics (Not GP or Pharmacy) if you are:
Female age 16 to 24 years
Male age 16 or older who started 1st year of secondary school, Home-schooled or a in special school in September 2019

Existing Patients

YOU CAN NOW BOOK APPOINTMENTS & ORDER PRESCRIPTIONS ONLINE

Existing patients please register with our Patient Portal. This will allow you to request repeat prescriptions easily and all of your prescriptions will be saved so you can easily request them next time you log in, you can also use the messaging functionality to message us.

You can also use the Chatbot at the bottom right of the screen to make appointments or request sick certs etc.

To order a repeat prescription we request that you use the Patient Portal to submit your order.

COVID 19 - Current implications to the Practice and Patients

It is no longer required that patients wear a mask when attending the Surgery unless you have respiratory, head-cold or sinus symptoms. Please feel free to wear a mask if you are more comfortable doing so.

Changes to the Requeirement of Drving Licence Medical

Increase from 70 to 75 years of age for the mandatory provision of a medical report when applying for or renewing a learner permit or driving licence.

Dr. Kathleen Mcclory
MCRN: 410549

Kathleen qualified from Queen’s University, Belfast, in 2008. She has worked in General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Paediatrics in the Belfast Hospitals, and spent a year working in Accident and Emergency in Sydney, Australia. She graduated from the Northern Ireland GP training scheme in 2014, and has a special interest in women’s health and paediatrics; she also has a diploma in Palliative Care medicine.

She joined the practice in November 2018.

She is available for appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

Dr. Claire Fitzsimmons
MCRN: 295140

Claire qualified from Trinity College in 2007. After working in Australia for a year, she then trained in medical specialties including cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, nephrology, haematology & oncology and graduated as a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2012. Claire graduated from the Trinity College / HSE GP training scheme in 2015, having worked in paediatric & adult emergency, obstetrics & gynaecology, and psychiatry. She has a diploma in Women's Health, and a Certificate in Contraception. She provides Women’s Health/Mirena and IUD services as well as general consultations. Claire has a special interest in paediatrics and women's health. She joined the Practice in 2018 and is the Principal GP here at Malahide Family Practice since 2020.

 

Dr. Aimee Murphy
MCRN: 371519

Aimee qualified from TCD School of Medicine in 2010. She graduated top of her class winning both the medical and ophthalmology awards. She has worked in General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Palliative Care and Paediatrics. She completed her specialist training in General Practice in 2015.

She has a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a Certificate in Contraception and a diploma in Palliative Care Medicine. She is trained in Implanon contraception services.

 She joined the practice in 2020.

She is available for appointments on Mondays.

Practice nurse Bernie Campbell

Bernie is one of our Practice Nurse and provides blood tests, vaccinations, ECGs, 24 hour Blood Pressure monitoring, dressing changes and Cervical Smears.

Bernie worked in the Children’s University Hospital (Temple Street) for 18 years before joining the team here.

She joined the practice in 2016.

She is available Monday mornings, all day Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings

 

Practice nurse Reena chaudhary

Reena is one of our Practice Nurses and provides blood tests, vaccinations, ECGs, 24 hour Blood Pressure Monitoring, dressing changes and Cervical Smears.

Reena has a background in cardiac nursing and is the lead in the practice for our Chronic Disease Management Program.

She joined the practice in 2022.

She is available for appointments on Wednesday afternoons and all day Thursday and Friday.
